A Breif History of Poulaphouca Pitch and Putt Club - Est. 1956

Poulaphouca pitch and putt 18hole par 3 was built as an amenity for ESB staff members of the power company, with both men and women playing the game from the onset.  As time went on it was agreed that the club would be open for membership from the general public. Shortly after that the club closed as many members of staff were placed at the new Turlough hill power station.

The Club and Course

In the 1980s with the help of previous members they decided to reopen Poulaphouca pitch and putt club as a local amenity it became more popular and growing interests and younger players were facilitated with membership available and introduced to competitions for U16s. A small prefab building was put in place for tournaments and presentations many returned and brought new members.

With very affordable fees and competitive tournaments for all ages we have seen many talented players throughout years within the club achieving Kildare, Leinster and Nationals titles. The course well maintained by its members and at times supported by community schemes FAS giving short term employment. A great variety of mature trees surround the perimeter and many trees planted to streamline the fairways to greens. Almost all greens were protected with daunting bunkers which almost half have been replaced over the years with grass banks.

Course Maintenance

Many changes and improvements continued with water irrigation system, new greens, tee boxes and updating machinery. With help of funds and savings local credit unions and banks and local business, the time had come to invest in new clubhouse and facilities which we still use today.

Over the years many members have come and gone and to this day it has been a great achievement indeed. Thanks to past members with determination hard work and inspiration it stands out.
